The term ‘interdisciplinarity’ has become a buzzword in higher education in recent years. But what does interdisciplinarity mean? What is a good interdisciplinary programme design? How do you assess whether a student has integrated insights from more than one discipline? How do you challenge students to step across the disciplinary borders?
During the first National Interdisciplinary Education Conference on 2 February 2017, Dutch and Belgian higher education institutions will share inspiring examples and case studies, and discuss the challenges that arise when implementing these new forms of education.
We invite you to register and to join us for this exploration of the future of interdisciplinary higher education.
Opening & Keynote
Karen Maex, Rector Magnificus of the University of Amsterdam, will open the conference, hosted by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies. This introduction will be followed by keynote speaker Robert Erdmann, senior scientist at the Rijksmuseum, who will share his experiences of using an interdisciplinary approach to preserve and understand famous cultural heritage. Witnessing the collaboration between disciplines at first hand has made him an expert on the value and challenges of interdisciplinary cooperation.
Sessions
After these plenary talks, we will start our parallel sessions. During each round, you can choose between talks followed by a discussion, an interactive workshop or a panel discussion. Our full programme is now available on our website, consisting of a wide range of topics such as interdisciplinary assessment, interprofessional collaboration and bridging the gap between science and society. You can sign up for these sessions in advance once you are registered.
